22-250 range report

Have any of you had or heard of any accuracy problems with 22-250 24in. barrel 3 in. group @ 100, I thought it would shoot better.

Brand new barrel? Any break in proceedure done? It very well may tighten up as you use it if it is brand new.  What twist is it and which bullet wt are you shooting? I have not heard of bad accuracy but sometimes the bullet choice just doesn't work... All the .224 guns we have are 1-9 twist and they like med 55 - 65 gr bullets.

It's a new rifle Im shooting 50gr.jhp rem. I cleaned the barrel every 3 shots. I'm sare it will get better I was just asking I will try some other type of ammo.

Read the Handi Basics 101 sticky and try again, oil/solvent on the latch shelf alone will throw accuracy out the window, but counting on one factory load to be the most accurate isn't really reliable, you may have to try different loads to find what it likes once it's broke in, that's why smart handloaders don't just try one load and expect it to be the best until they've tested several.  ;)

JB,

The 22-250 should be 1:14 twist.  I say should because sometimes barrels are shipped with the wrong twist for caliber. 

My wife's 22-250 is very accurate with lighter bullets, about MOA @ 100 yards.  It likes 36 grain Barnes VGs over Ramshot TAC.  It also did well with the 45 cal factory loaded tipped bullets, Hornady and Federals if my memory is working today.  With the 36 grain handloads it does best at starter loads, ie 10% below maximum. 

There is a fine gentleman who lives north of the Macinaw Bridge and he says his 22-250 Handi isn't very accurate.  Maybe it is just the subzero weather that is bothering his gun? ;)

My 22-250 shot great with 45gr. bullets and shot like crud with 55gr. bullets. I sold it and went to a 223 with a 1 in 9 twist.

If you reload try some of the 50 and 55 gr bulk bullets from Midway or Midsouth, they shoot great from my 1-12" 223 barrel.

I've got a 1 in 9 .223 that drives tacks, so I think I'm going to unload my .22-250 too.  I'm not much for pumping light pills.

My 22-250 was the only bad experience Ive had with Handis so far. Brand new the action would break open with every shot. Sent it back. Tried 5 or 6 different loads, all factory, (before I started rolling my own) from 40 gr to 55 gr, best group was like 4 inches. Traded it to my cousin, who killed a deer and several hogs with it before he sold it. Not sure where it ended up.

If you clean each 3 shot it will never get accurate as handies like to shoot dirty ;) Dirty it up some by shooting and insure latch dry, it will probably start behaving better. 8)

No insult intended, but on the same range session could you shoot better than that with another rifle?
Some days Im just not very good (other days Im only a little bit better  ;)).
On some sessions I have been driven to frustration, then grabbed something known to be accurate with similar sighting equipment to the 'problem child', and found out I shot just as poorly.
Next time around I would set the group size with the 'good one' and (surprise!) the 'poor' one had magically improved too.
Love it when that happens........shopsnoids had fixed it overnight......
