Ruger new Blackhawk grips

I got a used Blackhawk. It had rubber grips . I like wood grips so I go online to see if I can get Ruger factory grips . All the wood grips say they won't work with the guns with locks  ??? :o
Sooooo any ideas ? am I stuck with the new plastic grips ? better than rubber but not nice warm wood  :D even the fake ivory wouldn't fit  :(

Most aftermarket grip makers make their grips to fit the guns with locks.  Or, you can get rid of the lock...

  Well, getting rid of the lock means basically changing the whole grip frame out.  That or fabricating a new assembly to work with the hammer strut assembly.  As for grips... check with the better gunmakers.  They'll be able to accomodate you.

Sure you can get wood grips for the Blackhawks with locks...

I bought a Ruger 50th Anniversary in .44 Mag a while back and hated those rubber grips...
I found this guy online and ordered a set of birdseye maple and love them...

EBAY has grips listed for them all the time.
They may not be factory grips but many grip makers will put the medallions in them for a small extra charge.

It isn't all that difficult to replace the existing hammer strut and seat, and to simply remove the lock.  Ask Carl (Flatgate).

One can fit Factory Wood Grips by "carving" out some room for the lock.  Not a difficult thing to do.

Yes, one can indeed devise an "adaptor" that replaces the lock and sets a bit lower in the grip frame so a "standard"
Ruger Single Action mainspring, mainspring strut and mainspring seat can be fitted.

I make mine out of brass, copper or aluminum.

No can do.  I do not think my Friends at SR&Co. would appreciate my efforts therefore I've decided to not share my simple design.

Hint...... set the two styles (Lock & No Lock) grip frames side by side.....

Yah, private is good to work with.  He got me set up with grey/black laminate set pricing and was quite reasonable.  I had a couple emails, but it was last year.  Pricing was good and he will actually use any materials available in Sheffield's Supply Company: http://www.sheffieldsupply.com/catalog/SupplyCat.pdf.  8)

+1 on Private's grips. I have a set of American Holley on my .44 spl. flattop and they look and work great.

AND FOR PETES SAKE..........Quit calling those $0.25 plastic cheap grips hard rubber........they are not!

I bought a set of grips from Cary to replace the plastic ones on my Ruger 44 spl. with the lock in the grip.

Yes, the plastic grips are cheap and only come close in looks to the original hard rubber that Colt used, but the feel of them is not bad at all. The checkering helps keep the gun from slipping in the hand and is not a problem with recoil. I hope to complete the sanding and apply finish to a set of very heavily curly maple today, and I know that the wood will look better, but I am not sure that they will feel better. As for the lock assembly, a very shallow cut in the back of the grips accounts easily for it.
