Scope Mounting
« on: June 06, 2011, 11:48:21 AM »
How many of you guys use the supplied H&R base with some type of Weaver ring? I have a .357 on the way and after buying a set of Weaver Quad Lock rings for about $9 I'm wondering if I'm getting a little carried away with the $80 I usely have in the Warne Maxima rings and base. These Weaver's don't look too bad when I compare the money! :o

The Weaver Quad lock rings are not my favorite but they are a great reliable strong ring, especially for $9.00. And if they supply them for free they are a GREAT ring. I would not have any problem with using them on a rifle of mine....<><....:)

I've used the Quad Lock Rings on a rifle I had before.  It was a .243 Win. Handi.  I never had any problems with them.  It has a new owner now and as far as I know they are still on the rifle with no problems!

I've used quite a few sets of quad locks from 12ga slug guns to a Rossi 308 that was the most brutally recoiling rifle I ever shot never had a problem with them.

I've had no problem with the supplied base, I do fit it better than factory ( I think base fitting is in the faqs)
And I use the Weaver "Tactical" rings, I chose those cause they had the hight I wanted. They set low and that's what I like.
 Not a bit of trouble with 223, 7-08, 308.

You should not have a problem with the factory base or the quad locks on your 357.

Some years back the quad locks where 4x4 rings and worked well. Weaver sourced them out to china and they became JUNK!

I have found fault with the factory base with heavy "recoilers" and some rings. For these, I prefer a steel base and ring.

But as I said, the 357 will be fine with what your proposing.

I have one H&R supplied base and like it; if you dont I'll gladly swap you a Weaver 82, but youd be getting the worse end of the trade  ;).

gcrank1 there is a plus side to the weaver #82 base, there is plenty of room to cut new grooves and mount the scope forward of the hammer
