Prayers for the 101st Airborne Division
« on: June 05, 2011, 05:06:08 PM »
The division just returned from a year long deployment to Afghanistan. They lost 131 soldiers and over 1500 were wounded or injured. This is their single worst loss since Vietnam.  :'(

This may be simplitic from me. Was the 101st ever dropped by air into Afghanistan to assist ground units to occupy land and neutralize enemy forces as the "Airborne" designation signifies ?

The 101st as a division has not had an airborne mission since the Vietnam War. Out of respect for what the airborne troopers did during WWII, the "airborne" designation has stayed. Now the 101st is the world's only Air Assault division. This just means we use helicopters to rappell from and deploy combat troops.

Thanks, Dinny

That's right, jump school was replaced with Air Assault school.

Thanks, Dinny

Prayers offered.  My uncle retired after 34 yrs. with the 101st.  Command Sgt. Major.  WWII, Korea, 2 tours Vietnam.  He has kept me posted, and I'm sure will as long as he lives.

May God bless,

Ben
