I don't want to "step" on Boggy , but, there is a step before and some things that can help... The posts that support the pan (through which the screw passes) need to parallel to obtain even and consistent tension over the travel range of the pan. Also, many traps have holes for the screw, post and the pan, much bigger than the screw used...which allows for two more (additive) places for slop. If you purchase some, I believe, 10 X 32 or 10 X 24 brass screws and the appropriate numbered drill you will fix the slop problem (Boggy may just carry these).
To tweak the "parallel" problem and give better control under tension, you should place a brass spacer washer between the pan and post. Some washers are very thin and you can get one on each side of the pan (natural bearing surface) some set ups only will accommodate one. Either way use brass washers and things work much betterer.
On the new Bridgers a thin washer is there but, it is between the nut and post not the post and pan. Also the screws on new Bridgers are "close" but no cigar...me thinks its a metric thing.
