reloading a 35 rem

been trying to find a good load fore the 35 rem got re7 and varget .. found 4198 and 4895 .. cannot find H335,H322  the bullet is a 180gr speer Fn .. the gun is a t.c encore hand gun.. looks like 4198 wood be the better of the two????  what about BL-C(2)??????  180 GR. I haven't tried a 180, but 3031 works well with the 200 grain sp.

H380 works ok with the 200 grain Hornady with 39.9 grains giving 1900 FPS.
This load was for a Remington Model 14.

Here ya go, from a 1982 Handloader article on the 35 Rem by Layne Simpson, the 180gr RL7 load does 2450fps in my 22" H&R.

I use 3031 or 748 nearly exclusively in my 35 Rem loads, primarily with 200 grain Corelocts.

      Why would anyone shoot 180Gr, bullets in a .35 Rem.  ? Might as well use a 30-30 , better ballistics with the 170 ! This is based entirely on opinion and experience !

I think that Gunoil is using the loads in a Encore handgun, maybe the 180gr recoils a bit less.   I would use the 200 grain and reduce the loads to cut the recoil.   I for one would not use the hot loads in a handgun, simply drop back and use the loads like I used in the old Remington model 14 out of respect for a weaker action

And you are right the advantage for the .35 Remington was the 200 grain bullet, a much better killer than the 170 grain in the 30-30.

going to try the 200gr..  might try the 220.. can you buy the 200gr core-lokt??  what about the win PP??? got a few horn 200gr will the horn expand in a hand gun????  thanks fore the help   WORM    WORM

Why are you guys beating up on your shoulders, shooting heavy bullets.  i have found shooting 158 gr 358 mag jacketed bullets is deadly and fast, and cheap.  Wallacem in Ga

Here's some food for thought. Because I assume you have a 14" barrel, you need to stay with fairly quick powders or expect a lot of it to go off outsise of the muzzle. From the Speer #10 manual for the 35 Remington and their 180 gr bullet, they show a max load of 20.0 grs SR4759= 1653'ps. If you've never used the powder, it's close to the burn rate of IMR4227 but is very bulky. It will not meter thru any measure because of the bulk but it throws great from the Lee Dippers if you use them. It's EXTREMELY clean burning. If you want to extrapolate from the data, from the Thompson Center loading manual (yeah, there really was one), using the Sierra 170 gr FMJ bullet, Federal 215 primers, Remington brass, 32.0grs IMR4198 gets you 2182'ps out of a 14" barrel. 29.0 grs H4227 (note H as in Hodgdon powder, not IMR) gets you 2192'ps from the 14" barrel. That's for the 170gr Sierra bullet. From Accurate, the Hornady 180 SSP bullet, Rem brass, CCI200 primers 14" barrel the following MAX loads:
2015 powder-35.5 grs= 1751'ps
2230 powder-35.5 grs= 1772'ps
2460 powder-36.0 grs= 1785'ps
2495 powder-40.0 grs= 1837'ps
2520 powder- 38.0 grs= 1863'ps
ALL of the Accurate powders listed are MAX loads. COL was 2.560"

Hope this was helpful. I never could get the 180's to shoot out of mine. The 200 gr Remingtons are scary accurate at 100 yds. I've also worked up a load using the 250 gr Winchester bullets but I doubt you can find them for sale. They also shoot near match quality out of the pistol and Marlin rifles using IMR4064.

how old is this data???   32.0grs IMR4198 gets you 2182'ps out of a 14" barrel... they have 27.5 is max...  got some IMR 4198 going to try it ...  going to try H4227...   my barrel is a 15inch...  will IMR 4064 work in a 15 inch barrel????   If you want to extrapolate from the data, from the Thompson Center loading manual (yeah, there really was one),  like to find a copy thanks fore your help worm
