New Marlin 60SB....optics or irons???
« on: July 28, 2011, 05:13:57 PM »
Added a new member to the rimfire family... Marlin 60SB.   Do I scope it, or leave it alone.  It shoots great as is.

I have a scoped Ruger 10/22 DSP... was considering leaving this one with irons.  It's "stainless" and I'm not a fan of the silver scopes.  I could put a matte black one on it.... but I'm not sure.  Anybody have pics of their 60SB setup?
Here's my avatar...

I had the Marlin 60SB out today.  Man... what a shooter she is.   :)
I had to raise the rear sight, then she was dead on.  4" steel plate @ 50 yards... ping, ping, ping, ping.
This thing is staying bone stock.

Yah, my sights are my favorite.  Mine's not stainless and it's old, but she still shoots stellar after 25+ years.  ;)  Scoped for early squirrel season, then it comes off when leaves fall.  These days, my eyes don't pick out the little buggers as good when the leaves are still on the trees.  I use this with Kwik-Sight rings though, so after first shot, I often use the irons as I come on target much quicker, especially when I miss.  Yes it does happen.  lol  ;)  Enjoy your new toy.

I like the Weaver V9 as a scope, every bit as clear and bright as the Leupold Var X II's slighly smaller bell that looks better on the smaller rifle and at 60 to 80 % the cost  of a Leupold.  Oh and it does not have the front adjustable objective that drives me nuts half the time shifting from hanging plate to hanging plate o nth range or tree to tree hunting.
As far as glass or sights.... that is a personal choice and I have to admit I am a 22 a holic  and have a bunch in differet configurations from standard stock open sights to a scout scope set to standard scope setup and a varmint model CZ with a 6-18X40 scope.
I say get another one and leave it with the sights plain and be ready for any event or hunting.
