bought a savage 111 package gun in .270 with the intent of rebarrelling and changing out the trigger, just for fun.
got it for pocket change since it was on clearance.
decided "hell i will just lighten the trigger a bit and tighten the screws and take it to the range when i go next time.
got to the range and was pissed to see that i had forgotten my rest.
after getting it on paper at 25 and dialing in at 50 yards i moved out to 100 yards. the ridiculous heat and the shaky cardboard box i was forced to rest it on didn't keep it from punching 5 shots inside an inch. i wasn't babying it.
i wasn't thinking of keeping the barrel so i let it get HOT by shooting all 5 back to back and not really trying to be precise.
i am still kinda in shock that it shoots this great.
and annoyed that it's kinda ugly.
finally decided it fits me. functional but not so nice to look at.

the point is, this literally out of the box, cheapo scope, package gun under $400 can shoot like my $1,000 mauser custom.
how great is THAT for rifle looneys like us, that even the cheapies perform?
on a side note, a groundhog had a fatal accident while i was at the range. it appears *ahem* that he or she ran into a 32 grain Sierra .204 bullet out of my contender and didn't have the uh....guts...to hang in there.
