It's called a 'competitive system' actually.  True Capitalism, that.

Firearm manufactures are a prime example of capitalism, and because of that it made each one of them better. Which in turn gave us the consumer a fair price, and wide selection of very well made products.

All well and good said. Now look at how many have been bought up and consolidated into one big Corporation.
Look who really owns NEF these days.

Yeah!; I know.  It looks like stormy seas ahead.  We need a new Captain to steer this ship through the torrential waves that are coming.

Funny.  I thought that the illustration was a statement on what it takes to coexist in a geopolitical context.

Yep.

Check out this article - an absolute gem by Stephen Hunter, written at the passing of Winchester. Here he describes the Model 94 and the competitive industry that brought it about:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/19/AR2006011903278.html

Quote
You see before you the gun's most private parts: the chamber, the slightly bulged space in the barrel where the cartridge is encapsulated when it fires; the follower, a little spring-powered tray that lifts a cartridge (which has just been popped aboard by the pressure of the magazine tube spring) up to the chamber; the breechface with its tiny hole out of which will pop, whack-a-mole style, the firing pin when the trigger is pulled and the hammer falls.
You see: trays, pins, holes, steel walls. You see a miracle of timing by which all these elements have been choreographed to mesh in a brilliantly syncopated sequence. But you're also looking back into the 19th century and to what it was that made this country great. For what you're seeing is a solution -- elegant as any poem, efficient as any mousetrap, smooth as any crooner -- to a set of problems that might be enumerated as follows: How do you package chemical energy of roughly 3,000 foot-pounds safely in metal that is at the same time light enough to be carried, strong enough to be operated and simple enough to be manufactured?

Then you realize you're in the cockpit of what was then the hottest, most brutally competitive arena of that portion of the Industrial Revolution -- its Silicon Valley, if you will. New Haven is where all the young Bill Gateses -- their names were Winchester, Colt, Henry, Smith, Wesson, Marlin and a few others -- went to make their fortunes as their nation grew, sometimes violently, westward.

Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Really ? Colt caved into the Govt. and stopped making alot of pistols, S&W was owned by an English and was one of the first to cave into govt. WANT to install locks ,Springfield sells guns made from parts everywhere but here ,Winchester gone as we knew it ,Glock upset the market (ask S&W ),Beretta ? moss is what it is. Most American gun companies have been hurt but unions . Better ? by American companies ? maybe like the auto industry !
Funny thing Ruger has improved , its American and makes its guns , makes a profit and sells for afair price . They started in the 40's competing aginst the larger gun makers and have passed most in sales and quality yet they were not on the bumper sticker why they really do repsent CAPITALISM at its best , guess its because they aren't soicalist maybe trying to coexist .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
