whats your thoughts on a 25-06 ? looks like im getting one. im thinking it would be good varmint to deer rifle.

Ive hunted with a bolt action 25-06 for 16 years and have no plans of changing, whats that tell ya?

I borrowed one to try for coyote hunting not long ago... didn't see any coyotes but FELT well gunned at the time  :P .  it was heavy but well balanced, fancier handis feel sturdy and look good in that deluxe wood.

If you get one, make sure you put 50 rounds thru it without cleaning it, then try and dial in the accuracy. Don't say you weren't warned! Enjoy!

I clean mine pretty thoroughly, BUT I don't use bore solvents.  I just use brush/boresnake scrubbing dry and then oil the bore up and scrub it two or three passes and leave the weapon (barrel if removable on ??? firearms) propped up muzzledown to dry overnight.  I hear 45-70 is really not a picky cartridge for basic utility or handloading either so maybe it's the cartridge and not the gun letting me get away with the "super clean" regimen?  Keep your latch dry, float your forearm.  before I did this my handi was garbage, now it's probably sub moa- because it's almost moa at 50yds freehand kneeling.
