What cartridge boxes 357 Maxi !
« on: July 08, 2011, 06:27:20 PM »
I only use MTM-Caseguard boxes for my finished rounds. Since I got started with the 357 Maxi, I have use the MTM made for 222/223, in their CaseGuard 50 series. It works OK, but only with the bullets down. Has anyone found an MTM box made for the Maxi. or at least that allows the cartridges to be carried bullets up ?

.223 Rem works for me, like you, bullets down. Haven't seen anything else that better fits them.

Thanks, Dinny

I have the same Ammo cases as you, but I do not use MTM exclusively. I have Plano model 1211 which I like better. It has a hinged lid and slopes down a little in the front so that even if the case is down and unloaded, it is a little easier to get out. If you do not get your OAL too long a Franklin 504 works real well. A 180 XTP bullet in the first crimp works real well for example. The second crimp groove is a little too tall for them. They were designed for the 22 Hornet and 221 Fireball. They are still nose down, but they stick above the lower part of the box, so it is easy to get them out, even after firing them.

I've been using some that I made from Win. white box .38 spec. boxes. I punch the holes all the way through on one foam tray and tape it onto another tray. Not pretty, but it works OK.

Kinda like a PB&J sandwhich,to get the jelly on top at times you need to just turn it over

I haven't found agood one for bullet up either. For bullet down the best fit I have found is a FA #504. Max oal is 1.94 though so it wont work for pointy bullets. I use J&J 223 boxes I got from Harbor Freight for those also bullet down. The J&J boxes are shorter than the MTM boxes.

Hey, so Thanks !
Sounds like we mostly came up with the same answer.
Bullet up is one step quicker to identify what the load is, and it protects the nose
Thanks again !
