The best how to book and or DVD for moose hunting?
« on: June 22, 2011, 02:50:06 PM »
Dear Members of the Board:

I was blessed in being picked for the NH 2011 moose permit lottery. I am elated and surprised. In addition I do have some trepidation and worry. As a rule the success rates for moose are very high in NH, especially in the northern one third of the state where you can cruise roads and glass clear cuts. The zone I have been picked for is much more wooded. It is basically in the middle of the state. I suspect and others have commented that you will have to do a lot of ground pounding in this area. Also I do not believe there are any guides that work this region as well. So it is very much a do it yourself situation.

I need some advice on how to tackle this problem. The season starts October 15th which I do believe is after the rut. So again any advice will be welcomed.

The best moose hunting book I've read is called "hunt Alaska now!" by Dennis Conifer ....but obviously speaks of Alaska moose and some of that info is outdated. Very good read regardless. Best video on moose hunting that I've seen is call "Love thunder and bull 2".....but again it is aimed toward Alaskan hunters. The tough part in your case is you cant start your hunt until the rut is over, which is when bulls have nothing to do and all day to do it. Maybe they can be called that late in NH, but I've never hunted for moose this late, nor in NH.
