I am sure some of you have seen this popular cannon before. It's on the bluff on Silver Beach, St. Joseph, Michigan.

You should invert your last pic to show the numbers which represent the preponderance which, on this 11" Dahlgren Shell Gun, was 999 Lbs.  For those who
just recently joined us, the preponderance is the extra weight behind the trunnions which helps to elevate the tube for greater range.  Thanks for posting these
excellent photos of this gun.  Interesting information on the sign as well.  The Naval Ordnance Inspector who inspected and approved this gun was Timothy Atwater Hunt
(TAH), who inspected ordnance from 1856 to 1859 and from 1862 to 1867.

Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

Beautiful piece.  If I ever go through St. Joe, I'll have to look it up.
