People who are that uptight about things like that probably only use bottled water, anyway.  I'm glad the City of Portland is wealthy enough to flush that much in resources down the drain.  The taxpayers must really be proud of the city administration.

Unless the guy has a urinary tract infection, urine is sterile. Through air currents, the surface of the water collects billions of spores, bacteria, yeasts, etc every day. I wonder what they would have done if he had been caught doing #2 instead of #1.

By the way, which 8 million gallons did they pick? The ones nearest the faucets?

How can they justify chlorinating the water, then storing it in an open reservoir?  The video showed ducks, and apparent scum on the surface.  If they hadn't had the video surveilance who would have known?  They must have to test the water that comes from the taps.

There is a cowboy poem (Baxter Black) about drinking from a clear stream, then riding up it to find a dead cow.  Moral:  ride down stream.

Some of you guys must not be familiar with Portland, Oregon.  Portland does not have a shortage of water.  I think if the populace were asked how to handle the problem, the majority would have agreed that dumping the reservoir was the best way to go.  It would also be an opportunity to clean it out.  That said, the offender should have his hose cut off.

If those of you who live in tight water areas could see the enormous amount of water that is flowing through and around Portland, it would probably be mind boggling.

They should have loaded the pee water into tankers and trucked it to Arizona.   I'm sure the folks in Arizona would not have had a problem with a couple of ounces of pee in 8 million gallons of water.
