Remington 7600's made in Ilion, NY??
« on: August 22, 2011, 07:02:07 PM »
A friend of mine just told he they were imported from Japan.  The only Remington's I recall being imported were their 789 and 799 rifles and their over/under shotguns and maybe one of the weird shotguns they came out with but never made it.

I ordered a 7600 Carbine 30-06 today and won't have it for a few days.  I thought all Remington's (and Marlin's) were made in Ilion, NY and Kentucky.

What's the deal???

I never heard any of their 700, 7, 7400, 750, 7600 being made outside of Ilion or Kentuckey.

As mentioned, the only Remington's I recall being imported were their 789 and 799 rifles and their over/under shotguns (Spartan or something) and maybe one of the weird shotguns they came out with but never made it.

Somebody please give me the skinny on this ASAP if you can!

Thanks, NYH1!

It's hard to tell with him. . . . .it really is!

Yesterday I traded a rifle in and had my dealer order me a new Remington 7600 Carbine 30-06 Spr.  I had a 7600 Carbine 30-06 about 10 or 12 years ago and have always regretted getting rid of it, it was an absolute shooter.  From 2 inches to 200 yards, just hold the cross hairs on brown and it was down.
I was pretty excited about getting another one so I text him and a few other hunting and shooting friends.  Everyone else was happy.  I should have known he would have something to say.  He did what he usually does and finds something negative about pretty much everyone's new equipment.  He told me he heard the 7600's were junk and made in Japan.

Funny thing is, the Japanese are known for making quality firearms.  Just look at the old Ithaca SKB shotguns, the Weatherby Vanguard rifles, or the various Browning rifles, like the BLR, and the Winchester 1886 and 92 copies.

Remington no longer imports any products. The 7600 has always been made in Ilion, NY. The 597 and 770 are made in Mayfield, KY all other Remington branded guns are made in Ilion, NY by American workers.
