info on baikal single shot aka spartan/spr18/izh18/mp18
« on: August 16, 2011, 12:52:16 AM »
Hello,

Need info on my new singleshot - the baikal mp18.
I now have 2 of these - one in 222rem and a new one in 243win.

does anyone have expperience with the 243win caliber in regards to what cartridges it likes.
I have been told that the baikal singleshot is a little picky in caliber 243
I am not a reloader and would like to know if this rifle shoots best with 80, 90 or 100 grains bullets.

Please let me hear your suggestions.

I wish I could help you out .  I have one of these on order in 7.62x39. What is the twist rate of the .243? A faster twist will usually stabilize a heavier bullet. How is the .222?

I believe that twist rate is close to 1:10 in the 243win.

The 222 is a really nice gun and incredibly accurate. It always shoots beautifull groups. Havent been using it much for hunting so I will sell it now.

Good morning
The Baikal brand has been for sale here in Arequipa for at least 15 years.  The Rifle / shotgun combo is very popular as every gun has to be registered which is costly.  I have never seen the caliber.243 Win. option but there are many caliber .308 Win as the military personal "sell" ammo on the side.  But the brand is known to be well built & seems to shoot the standard bullet weights well.
