my new dayly carry gun  is
ruger  LCR  in  357

prior to that it was a smith 640  in  357...[still carry it some days]

when traveling i bring an extra 357....for redundancy  and ammo compatability

if hiking  i like a 3 inch 44mag.....smith 629

if  hunting.....the 5   inch  629  goes

at  17  onces  it carries  nice

best  DAO  trigger  i ever  used

not  as accuate  at  the  50 yard line  as the smith..[.but  we just met]

recoil  is  not an  issue  to me  and  i consider the hand held flash bang grenade  a bonus

i haven't  chronygraphed  this gun  yet   .... quarter inch  shorted  barrel

1250  out of the smith  2.125 inch barrel.............1.825 inch for the  ruger?

My 340 PD has the 1.8.. bbl and is 12 ozs it carries nice but a second gun would be nice. Recoil is stout but if its suppose to hurt on one end it will on the other also. As for flash bang who needs gun mounted lites with one  ?
Thanks

I carry a S&W 625 4". haven't found anything that will take 6 rounds of 45 ACP and walk away. Works great in a shoulder rig with speed strips.    :) :)...

Interesting, I carry moonclips for mine.  What speedstrips work with the ACP round

I debate with myself about ammo sometimes its 125 others its 158 . With that short a bbl not sure the extra bullet weight is a bad thing. But mostly its 125 JHP .

For most of 30 odd years hiking/camping/canoeing the wilderness back country of the Rockies one of my S&W Model 29's (although a S&W Model 19 was another often carried).   For big game hunting used the Smiths and many SAA's as well, but for most of all types of handgun hunting it was with the specialty handguns I've shot since the mid/late 60's.   For DA revolver CCW I carried 357MAG and 44SPL since the late 60's, either S&W, Colt, Ruger or Taurus.   Last two were both Taurus snubbies though, a 606 ported 2" 357MAG and a 431 SS 3" 44SPL bought back when they made some really fine revolvers.   I no longer carry CCW... no family to protect anymore and I simply don't feel a need where I've lived the last 13-14 years.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

629 with 4" barrel.   With Speer short barrel .44 mag ammo, recoil and muzzle blast seem pretty mild for self defense.  When hiking or camping, I prefer 240 JSP or 250 Keith SWC hard cast.

well,I own two DA revolvers so it would be a 2 3/4 " stainless Service Six that I round-butted or a like new 15-3 Combat Masterpiece from 1974.......either one will do the job 8)

I don't have one but the 389 S&W looks like it could fill most hunting/outdoor needs. Anyone tried one yet ?

While riding my tractor or doing other work in the woods it's my Ruger SP101 2" loaded with .38 Special +P or .357 magnum rounds.  But if I'm not working, it's my GP100 6".  Someday, after I've gotten better at shooting it, it may be my Super Blackhawk .44 magnum.

No lions, no tigers, and no bears here in SC. Unless Im handgun hunting for something specific, I carry my S&W 5" m-63 in .22 lr. I spend alot of hours (20-40 hrs)in the woods and in the river every week, and find that I shoot more cans, pine cones and snakes than anything else. It also dispatches coyotes when I'm trapping, finishes off a deer or hog while hunting with a rifle
CCW is my S&W 3" m-60.
Handgun Hunting deer or hogs either a S&W m-625 45lc mountain gun, or m-686+ 5" in .357
