Harmless Prank May Ruin Teens Life
« on: July 05, 2011, 06:22:31 PM »
http://news.yahoo.com/teen-faces-prison-sex-doll-prank-goes-awry-205000563.html

Have we really sunk this low as to allow the government to crush our children for just being kids.
These actions taken against this young man are so heinous that those who brought these charges should be jailed and never be allowed to hold public office again .

Everyone should just be thankful that the youth didn't make a gun-finger and point it at someone.

I feel the school acting properly and the 18 year old adult teen needs to face whatever charges they give to him. If a possible felony record ruins his life then so be it, he was the one who made the choices.

I see nothing harmless about his situation.

According to court documents, "security footage showed a person in a hooded sweatshirt and gloves entering the school with a package and leaving five minutes later without it."

NO!  NO!  NO!   Yes the dumbassed teen snuck in with a blow up doll in a box.   That fact is a non issue.  After it was caught on tape.

Yes a big call out was done, completed, and all turned out well.  No bomb, no damage, no injuries or death.  Just a silly stupid PRANK!

Slap the dummy with a misdemeanor charge and make him clean up animal shelter kennels for the summer.

Oh and find a job so he can repay the the costs incurred by all the searching and what not.

Then since he was publicly humiliated the process is completed and life goes on.

This entire episode does not require a felony charge at all!!!

Get real! :P

The teems intent was not to cause a bomb scare it was to make a prank/joke. Got to ask when were the tapes reviewed ? If on his approch why wasn't he approched ? Is this a cover up of lax rule following by security or admin ? Is this kid a scape goat ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

How many kids take a back pack to school and leave it? Should the bomb squad be called everytime? Did someone over react a bit much?

Should this young man be charged with a felony? No, he did nothing that would cause harm to another person, nothing to deface, devalue, or deprive another of property. This thing spiraled way out of hand to fast. I would bet someone trying to make a name for themselves saw the video and started the chian of over reaction.

No crime was committed nor was a crime intended .
Besides it was a funny prank. I done a lot worse in school and the most I got was licks or detention .

there is a reason kids cant enter into contracts and are considered minors untill they are 18 or 21. THEY ARE DUMB!.ill bet when he thought up this prank he never even considered it being taken as a bomb.hopefully a decent judge will get this and reprimand him will a tad of community service and forget it.being dumb in high school shouldnt ruin his life. now if he continues to be dumb, he will ruin his own life, that will be more than enuf punishment.

I will plead guilty to thread drift, but I'd like to pass along a creative high school prank:

My kids' HS has an annual, decidedly unofficial Senior Prank Day.  One year, the students released three piglets labeled "1,2,4".  The staff spent hours looking for the elusive #3, before correctly concluding there never was one.

Once again he deserves what ever charges the court system gives him.

The janitor saw him run from the school, so officials reviewed the video tape and responded accordingly since they had an unknown situation. It's quick to judge the officials response now since we know it was meant as a prank, but in real time the situation was unknown.

According to the article:
"Morton was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and institutional criminal mischief, a felony that carries the potential of two to eight years in prison."

I would imagine if those pigs were released in certain schools the prankster would be charged with a hate crime.

A dumb kid trick to be sure...I think the staff is furious at looking silly, having called the bomb squad to check up on a balloon doll.
Certainly he should not just walk away, but the sentence commensurate with the crime.  Surely multiple years jail and a felony conviction are a bit steep...enough to cause a young man to hate the society he lives in.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
