When is enough enough? How many parents and kids, men and women, young and old, black and white have to die from this indiscriminate killer before something is done?!? Please, oh please contact your congressmen and write the president. This danger is clear and present and affects us all every single day. Please, Government, save us from gravity.

(Disclaimer: This WAS tragic.)

stuff like this is actually pretty rare. However, I really HATE going to a stadium and seeing the upper decks with only a three foot wall at the bottom. Look at how steep the steps are to get to the upper seats and the fact that if you fall on the steps, there is NOTHING in most cases to stop you from going quite a distance. The upper decks should all have the clear walls like around a hockey rink. At least about 5 foot up. Make it so the drunk idiots can't fall over. Make it so an unattended kid can't just crawl over the edge. Wouldn't cost much...

It is one thing to learn a life lesson from the tragedy of another. It is an entirely different thing to mock that tragedy by decrying gravity. I do not agree with your attempt at satire in this instance.

One's actions, however noble, should be weighed against the consequences. In many cases - Death. If the ball was tossed insufficiently for the catch to be made safely, then the catcher is to blame for placing himself in harm's way over that precipice.

Will MLB or the buying Public call for modifications, only time will tell. A true tragedy for this family and for that son.

HE leaned to far he paid the price.what needs to be done install seatbelts in the seats and have everyone seated until game is over

?what needs to be done ? install a pre rail before the outside rail and make a buffer zone. people are still gonna do stupid things to catch a ball

Common sence should dictate that one does not dive for a fly ball when one is seated on the first row of the bleachers.

But alas common sence has pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur thanks in large part to 'Big Brother' government that has appointed themselves our keepers and to the throngs of panty wetters and liberals who are quick to cry "the government should do something about this...!"

In conclussion I say be carefull what you ask for and take some self responcability.

Since he had already procreated, he isn't eligible for the Darwin award. you have to remove yourself from the gene pool before passing your faulty genes along to the next generation.

When I first saw this I didn't realize that I knew the man, he was Lt. Shannon Scott an 18 year veteran of the Brownwood, TX Fire Dept. I didn't know him well but had occasion to communicate with him a few times. The members of the Brownwood Fire Dept all speak highly of him, several said he was a very devoted family man and never went any place without his son when he could come along, The members of the Department took it very hard, he will be missed.

According to the feed back from several of his close friends, he was a non-drinker, They said he would have a beer on occasion with a meal or at a party but always knew his limit. They said he would not drink while his son was with him knowing he had at least a two hour drive home.

This is not the first such incident such as this that has taken place at the ballpark, I heard (can't confirm) that another person has fallen since Scott did, difference, the other person got up and walked away.

Realistically a lot will say the guy was "stupid" and whatnot, but this could happen to anyone. He likely just got caught up in the moment, the adrenaline kicked in, and by the time he realized it was too late. Anybody here ever taken a fall in the woods? Tripped up? Did just about anything and said "Dang, that wasn't too bright". It happens to the best of us. It just happened to this guy with bad consequences.

I can't say that any action should be taken - as williamlayton said - stuff happens. It's just a tragic situation in general.

MG I don't agree with you often, but here I do. From what Rockbilly had to say about his character I'd say this country would be better off with more people like him. Was he stupid? I don't believe that. Put yourself in his position. A devoted family man who apparently adored his son very much and spent a lot of time with him, was at a baseball game and tried to get his son a major league baseball for a souvenir. Would the ball have meant anything to him? I doubt it, but to an eight year old boy, it would have been a prized possession. I'm sure he was just thinking about getting his son that baseball, and never thought about the danger of falling at the time.

Think about how many times in your life you made a mistake that could have been fatal? I know a few mistakes that I made, that could have fatal. Bad things happen at times, and during those times your mind is not focused on the task at hand. Its the main reason many are killed in auto accidents. Are all those people stupid? I really doubt it.
