You mean they might want to turn it into a church instead of a TV set?  Imagine that.

Good for the Catholics. Maybe they'll get that building back to the historic foundations of the faith.

Fundamentalists will have disparaging thoughts, and some will speak them out.

John Paul II was a quite a saint, no doubt - is he a Saint, too?
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Bankruptcy.

Creditors.

Basically, the offers on it will cover what CC owes to creditors.

  I'm pleased....it could have been sold for a mosque.. ;) :D

Actually, I never liked the "Crystal Cathedral".  The funds could have done better in helping the poor to acquire earning skills, build a hospital or fund dynamic missions.  Remember, "the great commission" doesn't include building a monument to a man.
Guess God didn't like it either...

Attended many of them for over 50 years.  We don't need a church.

I dont see an issue with this as a simpe real estate transaction. I do see an issue with the need for such extravagance for a place of worship.

In A.D. 1260 St. Thomas Aquinas visited Pope Innocent IV.  The Pope showed him all the wealth of the Catholic Church, its gold and silver.  He showed him the magnificent jeweled buildings and artifacts and while touring the Pope remarked, "So you see, good Thomas, unlike the first Pope, Peter, I cannot say, ‘silver and gold have I none.’  Thomas agreed with the Pope, but then added, “And neither can you say, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Rise up and walk!''

So much hate of organized religion, and especially the Catholic Church being thrown out here.  Remember The Widows Mite.  She was under no obligation to give the second coin, and possibly not the first. But she gave willingly for the glory of God.

What pitiful, spiteful spirits some of you must have.  Why should a house of worship, dedicated to God, be one bit less than the best that can be offered?  Consider also the Parable of the Wedding Feast.  When you have gathering of your friends, do you have them meet you in a filthy, tumbledown shack?  Or do you spiff up your house, maybe put out some special decorations and table ware?  Do you serve spoiled meat, stale bread, rancid butter, and moldy vegetables?  Do you wear ratty, soiled, smelly clothing?

So why then, when the Christian family comes together to worship as a community, do you insist that it take less care coming before The King of Glory than you do having a party with your secular friends?

This is not saying that everything must be encrusted with precious metals and gems, or that you can only worship in a tux.  Far from it.  But it should all be the best you can afford.  There was one man in our parish who always wore jeans, usually somewhat faded, work boots, and flannel workshirts to church.  They, and he, were always clean.  No one shunned him, no one though him somehow less.  In fact, he was one of the pillars of that parish.  He gave as he could.  Another man  bought some adjacent property to add to the land the parish had (most of which had been donated by Russian immigrants during the middle of the Depression).  He was not thought of more of him for doing that.  Again, he gave as he could.

Good one Swampy, I do agree

Of course, many people believe they are being "fed" at their church....and I'm not talking about the occasional dinner.
Many believe they are  being spiritually fed by the messages delivered and the fellowship.  If one is not being fed (spiritually) in his church ..it's time to move on.

IMO there isn't a church worth supporting.  If they would stick with the scripture I'd reconsider.  Eating sawdust will make you full.  It isn't food though.  For what it's worth I equally dislike them all.

That I can agree with you, a rare instance btw. I go beyond denomination though. Very few religions are peaceful either at present or were in the past.

Exactly.  Condemning a church because the men in it are imperfect is like condemning a hospital because the people in it are ill.

It's not the men, it's the devils in the men.  Organized religion "killed" the very one that came to help them.  They will do no less to his children.

  Totally correct subdjoe;
Too often people confuse the idea of a church with a given building or some of the people involved in an organization.  The "church" is NOT a building or an organization !  It is true believers who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  It may be hundreds who use a building to assemble in...or perhaps a few, meeting in the swamps or forest to avoid a hostile government..or even a hostile, so-called "church", political in nature..which hunts and persecutes them for being believers.  Our Pilgrim forefathers had to hold secret enclaves in just that manner.  The "house churches" of China face the same today.
Jesus established only ONE church, and He didn't give it any denominational name, other than His own..local branches are "local churches".  So long as the body there, cleaves to Jesus' teachings, they are part of the "church" He established.  If they depart from his teachings, they are apostate.  The huge, multi-level organizations sometimes have real problems trying to keep their focus, and sometimes rats get into the pantry.  Still, the individual can "keep his eyes upon Jesus"..
A local "church" is not near so complicated as some think...perhaps Swampy unknowingly, does attend "church"  as described by Jesus..
"  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20)
They are gathered in His name..they are CHRIST-ians..     Pretty simple really.

If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
