thanks for the link.  Ohio Deer legal and looks to be a big improvement over the 410 slugs that are also legal in the Buckeye state for deer.

Im a huge fan of the 28 gauge but Wow, at 2 bucks a shot...I would have to live in a no deer with a centerfire rifle zone to go there.  I would just stick to achery.  I was getting 15 round boxes of Winchester 12 guage slugs for that price.  Not quiet and apples to apples comparison, but...

Of course finding any 28 guage ammuntion on the shelf to begin with is quiet the rarity here in Texas.  Thats a shame cause I think its a great gauge for Dove/Quail or Rabbits and Squirrels with a shotgun.  I really regret not picking up a SKB 685 or Miruko O/U while I was in Japan and the prices were a bargin buy!!!

Even if they are expensive a 5 pack makes sence to drop a couple in your pocket while birdhunting just for emergency use.  ;)  I hunt sometimes with a double in 410 & usually keep a couple of brenneke 410 slugs in my pocket just in case I need them. They are expensive but I don't go to spend the day at the range with them......

The price will probably come down some, the closer  we get to hunting season, especialy at the big retail outfits like Dicks and Wal-Mart..Also watch for the sales at the end of the season when they have to dump a lot of inventory.I will be buying a few boxes to try out.A 28 with slugs may make a decent house gun.

Here in Wisconsin it is illegal to even have slugs in your possession outside of gun deer season, and you better have a valid deer tag then too.

I picked up a box for about the same price but have not had a chance to shoot then yet.

I didn't know 410s were legal for deer anywhere.  but the way I hunt they would do the job.
and 28ga shouldn't kick much more than 410s.

410's are legal here in New Hampshire also, either slugs or buckshot.

NH has a foolish regulation when it comes to deer hunting with buckshot, though. You have to use a minimum size of 00 buckshot which means that a 410 shooting factory 2 1/2" 3 pellet 000 buck rounds are legal but a 16 gauge shooting factory 2 3/4" 12 pellet #1 buck rounds are illegal for deer. :o

the only thing a 410 or 28 slug can be used on in Ga. is coyotes.  if I could use a 410 slug, I'd trade my 20ga for one.

I'm fortunate enough to live in a rifle zone but if I were in a shotgun only zone I wouldn't hesitate to use a .410 although I agree that a 28 gauge is a big improvement for only a little bit more recoil.

I am reminded of a quote by the renowned African hunter, Fynn Agaard (sp?), to paraphrase:

While certainly a fine thing to have, a 28ga slug is not going to advance much past novelty. I can hardly believe a 28ga owner does not have anything more appropriate to hunt deer with.  Secondly who exactly is going to keep this stuff on the shelf? I'll bet in the end internet sales will be the only outlet. you can only look at .410 slug sales prior to Judge to get your idea of where this will go.

For those who want them I'm happy for you. I would get something near a lifetime supply early though.

legal here in the Misery state, wouldn't wanta hunt grizz with em, :) but a 5/8 slug at 1450 would put down a whitetail jist fine.

I love the 28 gauge but it wouldn't be my first (or 2nd & 3rd choice) to go deer hunting with but they do have their place. A lot of kids simply can't handle any more recoil. For people that live in shotgun zones, legal 28's and 410's can mean the difference between taking a kid hunting or having them stay home and play video games all day.

I agree that 28 gauge slugs will probably never be big sellers but hopefully they find a small market niche to keep them going.

Roy where you been hangin latley? good to here from ya. I sure hope these become availible locally. Although I can't use them to hunt with will be nice to not have to load any more of those .54 slugs . I have no doubt they will work well on deer... my 20ga slugs are only 5/8 and 1200 fps and they work great but still would like less recoil. Gonna have to look for these. Kurt
