H & R model 158

I just bought a 44 mag rifle how do I know if it is on the right frame? The stock is different from the 270 I have on a cba frame. the stock is strait from the trigger guard to the end of the stock butt.

Model 158 44 Mag.

Just got a model 158 ser. no. has a A y then the numbers just called h & r and thy said thy had no Idea if it is the right frame for the gun. Where can I double check the number to make sure it is safe to shoot. I am new to the single shot world and just want to be safe and have some fun. This gun has a different style butt stock looks more like the lever action style   stock. who can I call ???

Welcome! The model 158 was made by H&R Inc who went out of business in 1986, that's why H&R1871 doesn't have information on it. All H&R Inc firearms had cast iron frames, 44mag was one of the chamberings that were offered by them, so you're just fine, H&R1871 offers the 44mag on SB1 frames which are also cast iron, so you're good to go.  ;) If you spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky as Kurt suggested, you'll see that your AY frame was made in 1982.  ;)

thank you for the info I feel better now and will start shooting the 44 mag and not worry about it going caboom on me, thank you again

The onliest differance i can find between my 158 rifles and shotguns is the firing pin is smaller and the firing pin hole also i believe. approximately .010 differance in diameter.
