SP101 22LR 10 round
« on: November 05, 2011, 02:46:42 AM »
Anyone else have one yet?
Whats your thoughts?
I just bought one a couple weeks ago, and really like it. I plan on swapping between it and my S&W m 63. Its not as accurate as the 63, but it seems to get more accurate the more rounds it shoots. I'm getting about a 3"- 4" group at 35 yards, and it carries very well. I wanted it to carry while running my coyote traps and dispatch those critters. I've put probably 1000 rounds through it so far with no problems. Great little gun.
Thanks
Gene R.

I think they have been a good seller since they came out recently. I have the older version of the SP101 in 22lr. I like it very much, nice simple & well built 22 handgun.

That is correct, it is an 8 shot revolver.

I am enjoying mine, and I agree with Gene that it is getting more accurate the more I shoot it.  I only have about 300 rounds through mine.  The action on it was pretty gritty and was causing some hanging when shooting double action.  I cleaned up the fire control group and put a set of Wolff springs in it over Christmas break which resulted in a 100% improvement.  Can't wait to shoot it again as I have a feeling the accuracy was impacted greatly by the trigger pull from the factory.

I put a set of Hogue wood grips on mine, and I am going to put some black electrical tape over the hi-viz sight as I don't like it.  A young lady in the Ruger Accessory department told me that plain black front sights would be available soon.  I mainly shoot paper targets and the hi-viz doesn't work very well for me in that application.

I have always wanted a S&W M63, and I love Rugers, so this was an easy purchase for me.  Not as small and svelte, and probably not as smooth, but I love it all the same!

Going with the conventional wisdom that a thread is no good without photo's, here is my SP101 along side my SP101 357.

My bad...I meant 8 round.

I had to send one of mine back to Ruger, it started having light strikes. I also learned that Ruger found problems with their early versions in reguards to cutting in the forcing cone and chamber issues. Wouldnt you know, that's what I get for buying them as soon as they hit the shelf. No matter I will send the others back also after I get this one back. I still like them.........

Thanks for the clarification on the round capacity.  I was real confused when I looked for the 10 rounder on the Ruger website. I LOVE how my 357 101 fits my hand and I'm really tempted by this 22. I'd be determined to have one if it had a 10 round cylinder.

Any chance they'll make a 22 mag version or convertible?

thanks for the pics.  I too wonder if I'd like the fiber site - they really don't appeal to me at all.

There has been rumor about a .22mag version, but I dont know. There is a good chance just look how quick they did the .357...with in 2 months or so after puttingb out the .22.

I didnt think I'd like the fiber optic sight either, but after shooting it a while I like it a lot especially when woods walking or checking my traps early. The sight glows just right.
