Man Jailed for trying to Cash a check
« on: July 09, 2011, 05:35:21 AM »
If your a first time home buyer and qualify for a first time home buyer rebate, you may want to think twice before cashing your check, if it's from Chase....lol!

Last June, 28-year-old Ikenna Njoku of Auburn, Washington was reportedly imprisoned for four days after trying to cash a Chase check the bank itself had issued to him.
Mr. Njoku, who at the time claims he had become a new homeowner, qualified for the first-time home buyer rebate on his tax return, for a total of $8,463.21 after overdraft fees, reports King 5 Seattle.
When Chase mailed him the check, he says that he sought to cash it as quickly as possible. But when he arrived at the Chase bank, the banker allegedly thought the check, and his claim that he owned a home, were fraudulent.
"I was embarrassed," Njoku told King 5. "She asked me what I did for a living. Asked me where I got the check from, looked me up and down -- like 'you just bought a house in Auburn, really?' She didn't believe that."
According to Mr. Njoku, he left the bank and was told by customer service that he should come back the next morning. When he did, the bank had phoned the police, who subsequently arrested him for forgery.
Njoku remained in jail for four days. When the bank realized it had made a mistake, they left a voicemail message with the detective handling the case, but unfortunately for Mr. Njoku, it was the detective's day off. No further attempts were made by the bank to correct the error, the local police department confirmed to King 5.
The check that had landed him in prison was reportedly seized as evidence and he lost his job for failing to show up while in prison.

He will have several good lawyers to choose from.
Hope he gets a big payday from that.

That sounds like something Chase would do. I wouldn't deal with those idiots if they were the last bank in the world,

All that will probably happen is they will fire some staff at that branch and issue a public apology. And if the cops involved didn't really seem to do much either. 1. Ask Chase is this check real? 2. Are you this person and is your ID real? Not very hard investigating here. Chase can verify the check on the spot. And his ID can be verified on the spot provided that he has his ID on him. Fakes aren't that hard to spot. The poor guy may get lost wages back to him since he was fired, but not millions. 4 days in jail doesn't earn much, unfortunately. But, I don't see too many employers not hiring this guy back after it is all worked out. And don't forget, this guy is going to have a Forgery Arrest pop up every time a future background check is done. Though no conviction, those arrests can raise eye brows quick, especially forgery. Hope the guy doesn't lose his home.

Chase is nothing but low lifes. When I had open heart in 2003 our payment was in my wifes purse in a stamped envelope, with the heart attack and surger she forgot to mail it on time, they got it a week late.  Been with them over  35 years, never missed a payment or been late. They dbld the int rate to about 30 %. We finally got them paid off. What gratitude to a loyal customer. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(
Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB
