It's mighty hot right now. 98 degrees and humid here in Minnesota, land of absolutely the crappiest weather anywhere. This is after the longest winter I can remember. Weather deteriorated in early October and didn't improve until mid-May. Then it was nice for a week or two and it got hotter than blazes.

I was watching the weather last night and I think they said we've had temps over 100 for something like 27 out of the past 31 days here. Our normal highs are in the low 90's this time of year. Add to that the drought we're experiencing and it's not much better than the frigid temps and snow we had this winter. Weather has us staying indoors most of the day. Cabin fever.... >:( strange weather, and not much change on the horizon.

100 + here every day too.Have to be out in it also.My water well business is going crazy.Water depth is dropping like flies.Our table usually stay around 7-9 feet.Now its down to 15-18.Some of the shallow wells are being replaced.Pups are dying from over use.Not complaining too much about the work,but this dang heat is killing this old man.

Last week was a cool upper 90's. This week a not bad just under 105. 2 weeks ago was rain and 95-100 three weeks ago was 110-115. Next week who knows, hopefully below 105 but August is still coming and we usually get the 110-120 for 2 weeks.

It's the end of the world!  We hit a blazing 72 degrees yesterday and it's expected to soar to at least 70 today.  And on top of that we had a sprinkle of rain last evening to add to the misery.
 
I was forced to spend yesterday on the Columbia river in my sea kayak to escape the broiling heat.

Yea, but it's a wet heat ;D .


We ran the wipers till 0930 this morning to keep the dew off. I heard they set a record in the Twin cities today with a dew point of 81 degrees. And the nice two weeks? That musta been adding up days that didn't rain!


I didn't move to Mn. to sweat like this coulda stayed in In. ;)

Always thought you Mn folks were just whiny about humidity.

In Alabama, we have humidity delivered fresh daily from the Gulf, but 80 dew point is the highest I have seen here lately.

We've had rain every evening, with sprinkles off and on during the day, for the last month.  It snowed yesterday just south of here.  They are predicting temps in the 70s with lots of sunshine for the rest of the week.

You have it right Minnesotans are a whiny bunch about heat. The truth is humidity is normally pretty dang nice compared to central Il for instance. They call 71 dew point bad here.


Now on the other hand we freely admit humidity is horrible. I for one moved 600 miles to escape it. I was willing to do something about a lousy situation. I'm gonna tell you straight I can dress for -25 degees. I can not undress enough for 90 degrees.

Maybe that was a heat index or something like that. Temp was no more than 100 peak and got into the mid-80s by 9pm, and it got much more comfortable overnight because of a big drop in humidity.
 
The issue with Minnesota is that we are set up for anything related to cold: homes designed for it, furnaces, snow plows, and people who grow up knowing how to deal with it. We aren't set up for heat, though. A lot of homes don't have air conditioning because we seldom need it.
 
It's funny to go South where people think 30 degrees is cold, and then go to Minnesota where people think anything over 80 is really hot.
 
My wife is a native Minnesotan and it took me about ten years of persistent effort to get her to understand what a fan actually does and how it should be used.

We finally broke the streak of 100+ temps yesterday. ;D
It was a frigid 99 for a high ::) , even though everyplace around the official reporting station were in the 103 and above. :o
With this kind of heat the old AC has to work overtime during the heat of the day.

We have experienced 40 days straight over 100 degrees.  It’s so dry everything is dieing, game animals are abandoning their new born because they are so weak they can’t feed them, several fawns have been picked due to the mothers deserting them, and even the birds are leaving their eggs.  Ranchers are selling their cattle because there is no water and farmers can’t plant due to no rain. Several local cities have restrictions on ALL outside fires; you can’t even fire up the grill.  Of course we also lost near 200K acres to fire so I understand the restriction.

All us old farts can do is stay inside under the A/C and fans. The wife and I go out only when necessary, and lately have tried to schedule things early morning or go after sundown.  My electric bill has almost tripled what it was last year. If we don’t get rain soon I will loose all my plants and lawn.  I am afraid that when it does come it will bring bad weather with it.

We don't have Spring and Fall any more. Just Summer and Winter. You've heard it's so hot you can fry an egg on the sidewalk? It's so hot here the egg is already cooked before you can crack the shell!!!!!

I live 100 miles from Death Valley. When you stop walking and your shoes stick to the pavement. When you wear driving gloves in the summer to keep your hands from burning on the steering wheel. When you wear a long sleeved shirt and a hat becuase any shade is better than nothing. Outside work is done between 4 am and noon.
This winter we will get a couple days below 32 and I might have to sweep some frost from my windshield.
