Question on price. Dealer has one at $695. Can't find any in Shotgun News to compare prices. Good price or not? Dealer is shut down until the first of the year so I have a few days to think on it. Thanks.

I have seen them around $500 but its beat up stock and not a pretty gun at all. At local shows here in Mass. they have been running $750 to $1200 and the higher priced is worse than the lower price you have to shop around and get the best condition gun for the least amount of cash. I would haggle the price with the dealer offer him $500 first then look the gun over check the bore again and go to $550 work your way up. Even walk out and go back a few days later play the game. Look at something cheaper first don't look too interested in the garand look but don't look at it pass it over first "Browse" the shop. BigBill

Go to: http://www.odcmp.org You can buy Garands direct from the CMP for $425.00. What you get as far as condition is the luck of the draw. I purchased two Springfield Garands with VAR barrels that happened to be in excellent condition. The barrels were like new and both are excellent shooters. The CMP also has 1903 and 1903A3 Springfields. In order to purchase read the CMP requirements which are not really hard to fulfill. For Garands and Springfields this is the best deal out there for shooters. When these are gone that is the end of the supply.

What do you do if your range/club isn't a member?? S.O.L.?? Any suggestions?

If your club is not a member with CMP the manner in which you qualify to purchase a Garand or Springfield is to: (1) Shoot at least 50 rounds in a CMP match at any club that has these matches. Most clubs that have these matches have them open to non-club members. The score does not matter. A form is signed by the rangemaster stating that you shot in a CMP event. (2) Be a member of the Garand Collectors Association. Dues are $25.00 a year, I believe. The CMP site lists all the clubs that are CMP members state by state.
You mail in your signed CMP event form, a copy of your Garand Collectors Association membership, other completed forms found on the CMP site and after a period of time Fed Ex brings the Garand or Springfield to your door.

Just to clarify;either CMP Match or member Garand Coll. Asso.,not both. I'm treasurer of a CMP club in Ms. & we give clinics twice a year.
