Gun Talk or Gun Tech on tv
« on: June 26, 2011, 04:52:45 AM »
I caught part of this gun show on TV and they were timing firing 12 rounds to see which gun was the fastest in a gun fight.
This was to see which handgun could handle 12rounds in a gun fight with less time involved.  They did say the average gun fight lasts only 2 seconds.

The 6 shot revolver took 40 seconds to reload after firing 6 rounds and hand loading each of the next 6 rounds and firing again. Why no speed loader was used i'm not sure about that.  But 40 seconds is kind of a death in a gun fight if you need 12 rounds quickly.

I think next was the 7rd or 8rd auto.  This 12rd gun fight comparision went down to 25 seconds changing mags. I would also put the revolver with the speed loader around the a same time too.  Lets face it were all not competition race gun guys.

Last was the auto with 12rounds in the mag (double stack) it was only 15 seconds for all 12 rounds on target.  So the little auto's with the double stak 12rd mags wins in the shortest time it took 12 rounds to be fired.

These guys pulled the weapon shot 6 shots from one side of the wall then went over to the other side of the wall and fired 6 more shots hitting all 12 targets.   Seeing it down to 15 seconds is really fast to me.

Sounds like that was a test to see who was the better shooter, not what gun is best in a fight. When I carry a revolver I always have a least one speedloader with me. They need a better test for the guns. Besides whoever took 40 seconds to reload a 6 shot revolver (without a speedloader)definately needs to spend more time practicing! I could do that blindfolded.....

I'm most impressed by Bob Munden.  he can draw and fire 6 in that 2 second span by fanning with all five fingers.  anyway, the shooting you described is pretty impressive to a klutz like myself.

If you start with a BOX of 50 rounds I think most of us could go through a box more quickly with a revolver than an auto. A lot of magazines are unplesant to to load. I perfer revolversand this is one of the reasons. I also have found that six rounds is about all I want to shoot in a string. I do not like that my s&w 317 holds 8 instead of 6.We all have our little differences

There's a video of Rob Leatham drawing, hitting 3 targets twice each, reloading and hitting them twice each again, 12 shots in 3.9 sec. and if you go to Cowboy action world records you can see Deuce Stevens draw shoot 5, holster, draw 2nd gun and shoot 5 more in 2.44 sec. Certainly not average shooters but shows what can be done.

now lets not forget Jerry Miculek 8 rounds under one second http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWSvjgNOJyo&feature=related or 12 rounds in under 3sec. http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php?action=post;topic=236354.0;last_msg=1099345335
I think he holds most speed records with a double action revolver. http://www.jerrymiculek.com/titles.html

Seems a bit silly to me.  In a real gunfight the first person to make a CNS or heart shot will probably win, despite how many rounds are expended.  Maybe learning to shoot accurately under pressure and carrying a gun with enough horsepower would make a better show.....jmo

Yup! Even Jeff Cooper said the gun games are just games and have nothing to do with fighting.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
