looks fake, opinions?
« on: July 25, 2011, 04:19:12 PM »
I got a tip from one of the guys at work to check out this cannon the next town over in a VFW parking lot. It looks like a piece of water pipe on wagon wheels to me, but I could be completely wrong.

I have no clue  :o  I dont think it is your average yard ornamenit ,

After a second look.......at it ......yes I think it is a bomb ...homemade too , the castable is not a good thing .

Show us some pictures of the  markings.  Ornamental maybe, commemorative maybe.  There is something different about this gun, to many odd detail and features, that shouldn't be on an ornament.

If you look at the magnified image that Rocklock posted, you see that it is either

over that Keystone with the V in it.

There is a company, Marmon/Keystone that makes pipe.  The company is a bit over 100 years old.  I wonder if it started as Keystone Pipe and that might be a section of their iron pipe with the part number cast into it?

Someone definitely took some time building it. Very strange. I do think you're also correct that it was made to fire, RocklockI, I am going to guess as a noise maker.

Square(ish) bore, and the overall look makes me think of drill pipe. The off set touch holes make me think it was intended as a display or maybe a version of a carbide cannon used for company promotional events.  Just pure speculation here, based on what has been presented.

The wheels and axle are from a WWI machinegun cart, someone put a lot of effort into the carraige, it was probably made up at least 50 years ago probably for the Civil War centenial. I don't think a shooter.
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
