54 Degrees and Rain

Hate to rub it in on those of you sweating down there in the heat.  I know, I've been there.  That's why I don't live there now.  We are expecting a high today of 70.  Dinny, you should have stayed.  Hunting season starts in 14 days.  Darn, I got a lot to do before then.

Norm, my hunting partner, wants to take our Weatherbys with us for Caribou this year.  He wants to go down two or three days early, and shoot predators before Caribou opens.  Shooting Wolves and Bears won't disturb the Caribou.  Yea, they may run from the gunshot, but in 20 minutes a whole new batch will be coming through.  Same for the Wolves.  Bears, no they are slow.  But Bears look at gun shots as a dinner bell.  A free meal, if they get there fast enough they get the whole Caribou, not just the gut pile.  Just don't want any more close encounters, had enough of them.

KP, will miss you and your son.  Sky, and an Oil Man from Anchorage is going with us this year.

Viva la difference! Not all of us are cut out to appreciate pacific northwest weather. It sounds absolutely horrid to me. Enjoy!

Man, I'd trade in a heartbeat or less for what we have now.  It's supposed to be 105 here today.  Everything is dead or dying.  About 2 inches of rain since November or so and none in the forecast...  South Texas weather sucks until the winter...

Conan:  Next week it's predicted to be back up in the high 70s and 80s.  Once this rain goes through.  That's during the day, at night it will drop down into the 60s and 50s.

BTW that 54 was at 8 AM this morning, right now at 3:12 PM it's 64 deg.  Very comfortable for shorts and a tee shirt.

I took a phone pic of my trucks outside temp thermometer today........117. :-[
 


We were up in Colorado last week, average high about 82 - 84.

Ouch, I remember when I lived in Arizona going to work one afternoon on my motorcycle and how I was having a hard time breathing.  As I passed the bank the temp read 117.  I swore I would leave Arizona and never live anywhere that the temp got over 90.  Here i am in Alaska.

110 in central Kansas yesterday. Was just watching the local news, two counties in far SW Kansas has had two inches of rain in the last two years. :P  Picked up my new Guzzi from its first service, rode it home 40 miles in 102 degrees. I soaked a long sleeve fleeced lined sweatshirt in water and then put a denim shirt over that. The except for parts of the back the sweat shirt was completely dry in about 25 miles.

Thanks for rubbing it in.  ;D It was 105 at 7:30 yesterday evening.  :P The ground is as dry as concrete and about as hard. The news is reporting that this is the driest year since NM began keeping records in 1896 and it's the driest one I've seen in my 50+ years here. Drouth has some good points though. I've cranked my mower twice this year just to mow around the flower bushes I've been watering and it took about 20 minutes to mow each time. No weeds to poison. Except for flies by the millions we have no bugs. No mosquitoes, yellowjackets, honeybees, or bumblebees. I wish we had the bees as they don't bother us and I like to watch them especially the bumblebees. They aren't as fast as the hummingbirds but they can do any thing in flight the hummers can. I would trade the flies for mosquitoes as repellent will keep the skeeters away but nothing works on these d--- flies.

We are supposed to get a little break starting tomorrow when the temps will drop into the high 90s.

The hunting part warrants several detailed posts, hint hint! Synthetic or wooden stocks? What kinds of varmints (do bears and seals still count as varmints?) What's the caribou herd like this year? Etc. Etc.

Lucky dog!  Today we made the 47th day over 100.  Yesterday we broke the record for the most consective days over 100 degrees. In addition we are having one of the worst droughts I have ever seen.
 
Tonight is a little overcast, withy the storms in the Gulf we MIGTH get some rain this week-end
