help me ID an old take down singel shot .22
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:26:43 AM »
i traded a Bushnell 3-9x32 scope for a old 22 singe shot . neither me or the gentleman i got it from could find a manufacturers name any were . i took a couple cell phone pics ,I will need to borrow a camera for good pics or try in some better lighting .

He was glad it went to some one who would use it and im glad to have it so valve is not important to me . I am just curious as to what it is . It seems like a decent enough single shot and i will be chasing some squirrels around the woods with it . the only marking i can find are a crown above a B a crown over a U and a crown over  a G . also stamped on the bolt body is 2 23 .

i have asked on RFC and a few guys say is prewar German .

my guess would be a british rook rifle.  they're pretty well made if that's it.

I have seen old Springfields that look very similar but they all had markings.

the crowns and the 223 led my thinking to british.

from some research on German proof marks its pre 1939 German  . the other marks id it as a Gecko .22lr  , likely the 1925 model .  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYZ7SX_qQW4 a viedo on youtbe of a very similar rifle , but minus the turned down bolt handle .
