Mike I don't want to rain on your parade or discourage your particapation but we discuss Black powder cannon and mortars of a more tratitional nature....
check the board rules on "Stokes style mortars"  until the ATF gives a ruling on this type we don't talk about them.

Gents,

Stokes replicas were designated off topic on this board some years ago.  The Stokes mortar is a post 1898 design and outside the scope of the  blackpowder mortar and cannon board which deals with pre1899 designs.

We took a firm stance on this issue after several news reports of people being arrested for having these type guns.  True enough the folks arrested were up to other bad things, they still were charged regarding these things. We do not know the outcome of the charges relating to these guns.

We have also stated that if someone will provide us with a letter from ATF that can be posted on this board stating that these mortars are not consider destructive devices and exempt for such licensing, we will allow the discussion of this class bowling ball mortar.

We would love to open the board to these mortars, but in order to protect everyone here until we see the letter from ATF we won't allow the posting on this forum.

It's kind of hard to judge the angle in the photo.  And it would take one heck of a wind to push the ball back behind the line.

I'm just appalled at all the clutter and trip hazards right next to it.  And the fire extinguisher in front of it.
