  The water is very cold, and never stops running, as it's an artesian well...

Where I live the water levels have dropped to where a pump is necessary for artesian or shallow well water either one. Might be good to have a plan "b" just in case.
 
Once there were springs running into the local river "Quiver River" so named because of it's cold springs. The free flowing artesians have all stopped also. ear

Had a boss man once ask me about him buying his wife a horse. Said she wanted one to ride. I told him the only thing dumber than a horse is the person that would buy one.
On top of that Ive never known a woman that loved horses that was not bat crazy.  He bought her one and in a few months was trying every way he could to get rid of it.
Its not they dont have their place in the world. Its just not my place.
You have to watch them like a baby. They can get into things that will hurt them before you can snap your fingers. When a man is trying to survive he dont need the distraction.
I quess if things got real bad, they would taste better than a tractor.

  It would have to do some serious "stopping" then, considering i have three bigger spring fed ponds,
 

 
  that make enough water to form a nice stream that crosses my place.  AND,  also a couple other springs that make streams...  My ponds just keep getting better over the years, produceing more and more water...same with my flowing well.
 
  So, i expect i'll have more water than i can use until i take my eternal dirt nap!
