Encore barrels? Are they accurate or should I buy...??
« on: January 03, 2004, 11:40:01 AM »
I am thinking about buy an encore rifle in 375 but I can buy a savage bolt 375 h&h for the same price!
I like the feel of the Encore, but I would like to know how the Encore barrels compare to other rifle manufactures in the accuracy department?
Is the Encore a tack driver?
How does it shoot comparied to other rifles that you own?
Is it worth $500.00?  I have shot savage rifles out of the box that where extremely accurate!
What's your thoughts on the Encore rifle barrels or should I buy the frame and just get a custom barrel thanks!!!

The Encore's that I have seen are generally good shooters, although at times they dont cut the mustard.  Then you send em back and get another one from Thompson.  The only advantage to the Encore over a regular rifle is that you can change the barrels out for other calibers so easy that it is almost ridiculous.  The other thing would be that some like to be single shot hunters/shooters.  I go both ways depending on what blows my hair back. :-)

The Encore gives you added versatility when you want to change calibers.  The 375 is not designed for paper punching so even in the Savage I would not look for the same groups possible with say a 22-250.  Most of the factory Encore barrels will do MOA or sub MOA with the proper loads.

And when you've known Chris for as many years as I have, you realize that a rifle with "wing nuts" on the barrels is ideal for him since he trades away his toys so often - constantly.   :)

OK, now that I spoofed an old friend.....  I'll also say to consider the versatility of the Encore if you think you may want to be a switch barrel hunter and can live with just one good shot.   Even the factory barrels will usually shoot as good as you can, at least minute of animal in the bigger boomers.   And they are so easy to resell (or trade   ) later if they no longer strike your fancy.   Have to admit I have been impressed more than once with the Savages right out of the box though, so I guess it really just comes down to your personal preferences.   Either way, I doubt you'd be going wrong.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
