Help BLR 450 Marlin Mag box measurements needed!!!
« on: September 24, 2011, 04:16:03 AM »
hey guys---anyone have a 450 marlin Blr mag box handy? Been thinking of buying a 450 blr so that I might use a Speer 350gr MTSP bullet that is just too long for my 1895 marlin. I'd appreciate an inside the box measurement, across the top of the follower lengthwise. I know if I seat the bullet out I'd also have to throat out the chamber to accept the additional length but that's easy enough to get done. I called three different "gun" shops that are advertising the Blr for sale and" no calipers available" and even "what are calipers"? from one of them. When I called the Browning "Tech" dept, they told me I'd have to call the factory in Japan to get the measurement. I know, I didn't believe it at first either.....
thanks

Sorry, cannot help you with that one! Rather than buying a new rifle (which aint a bad thing), have you tried trimming brass back a smidge? I have to to use the Hornady Flex tip ammo. If you are not dead-set on the Speer 350, the Hornady 350 Interlock SP feeds and shoots very, very well in my Guide Gun in .450. I would, as always, consult the bullet manufacturer, and reloading manuals. Obvioulsy your OAL will ultimately be determined by the box magazine anyway. Not sure that you gain anything by throating unless the mag length exceeds the chamber length. I am curious about this too. Please post what you find out.

Mine is 2.610" tight to the spacer. I have heard of people taking out the spacer to get a 2.900 COL. It measures 2.950" without the spacer.
