8.15x46R Schuetzen rifle
« on: December 18, 2003, 02:51:45 PM »
Just picked up a German Haenel Aydt Schuetzen rifle, and it's chambered for the European 8.15x46Norm, or rimmed cartridge.
I've got the dies and some reformed .32 Win Spl. cases, but only one loading for it. I'm looking for load data from anyone who has worked up loads for this caliber?
Cartridges of the World says that it is similar to the .32-40 in velocities, but I don't want to just load up what works in my .32-40 Winchester 1885.
 Any help is appreciated!
 Thanks

Thanks JDT. I have a copy of Cartridges of the World also. Was hoping some others might be shooting this caliber. I'm quite surprised that the #1 cartridge in Europe, is so unknown here.
 Thanks.

With a Lyman 316475 bullet and 13 grains of 4759 or 14gr 4227 and 15gr of 4198 have got good results with fixed ammo, wouldn't go much hotter unless breech seating. Regards--Strapnug

Thanks Strapnug!
I have a few cases loaded now, and if this darn snow ever lets up, I'll give them a try.
Do you use original 8.15x46 cases, or reform from .30-30 or similar brass?
I found a set of claw style scope mounts for 1" scope, so I have mounted a old K10 Weaver scope on it for load workup. I'm modifying a long range vernier sight, to adapt to the square hole in the rifle. Hopefully I'll be able to use iron sights for most of my shooting. I built a new base on my mill, for the Aydt base, and made it to fit the upright from my Winchester Hi Wall rear sight. Looks right at home on the Aydt!
