Need help accurizing a #1
« on: July 05, 2011, 06:08:49 PM »
Years ago I read several articles on "fixing" the forearm on a #1 to get better accuracy.  I can't remember what I read. Can somebody give me a review?
Full length bed or float??
Something with the forearm screw at an angle???
Any info would be helpful.

Do a search on the Hicks accurizer and if you look on the forum there are a number of replies and you can also do a search on the net.

Been working with single shots for years.  D&T the forend bracket for a set screw to bear against the barrel, I put a brass shim under mine.  Bed the forend at the action end about 1" of the barrel, free float the rest.  Some may say otherwise, but I bed the buttstock to the frame--eliminates all the possibilities.  Will work wonders for the accuracy, especially vertical stringing which single shots are noted for.  Goatwhiskers the Elder

Have a lot of Info on how to get a Ruger # 1 to shoot like a Target Rifle but cant share it with guys that think PA is a socialist state. We wouldn't want you to get into trouble with a super accurate # 1.

The reason why PA is a socialist state is:
T/C frames can go in as a rifle but in order to get it returned to me it has to come out as a pistol.
Free states require name and address to sell a firearm to a dealer. PA requires DOB, SSN, DL #.  That the state police allegedly then file away.  In actuality I think they sell it to illegal immigrants so 1500 folks can walk around with my identity. (In Hazelton a judge is making easier for illegal immigrants to stay until they can assume my or your identity!!)
In PA you can't do a private sale with a handgun
In PA you have to have a waiting period to buy a handgun
In PA you can't hunt with a semi-auto.

Didn't you guys elect the chairman of the DNC as your governor?!?!

The Hicks accurizer is just an addon to do what the set screw does.. It works but is too expensive..IMHO--  The political discourse has a seperate forum and I would suggest taking it there!

Well, just glas and float the forend.

Simple enough and it works.

Glass to the under barrel hanger where the forend screw goes in, the bottom of the ejector  adjustment point, and a third spot on the other side of the forarm wood and then float as normal.

While your at it, if your #1 has one of those ugly, my opinion, Alexander Henry forends, this is a good time to replace that groove with a nice piece of contrasting walnut or as in the case of my RUGER #1s - 45/70, ebony.

Keep em coming!
