Mine don't like anything but small primers. I had loaded up about 50 cast bullet rounds and the cases were all large primer pockets. Nine out of ten failed to fire. I was getting good hits but they were off centered. I switched to small primer pockets and every single round fired. I tried using the barrel on another(308) receiver but the hammer wouldn't cock. I looked them over real good, took measurements but couldn't find any difference. My personal opinion about the Rossi 7.62x39 is that it's a handloader's gun. Mine is accurate and enough to meet my expectations, it just won't shoot large primers but stuff it with a cast bullet and 8 grains of Unique and voila. It becomes a shooter.

Thank's for info I was able to try today Hornday 7.62x39 V-max still won't fire
I'll see what Rossi will say about this week. Seems like a stronger hammer spring would help       Smitty

I have an H&R model and the military primers are to hard to ignite with these guns. That said cabelas has brass cased MFS ammo for 6.99 20 pack that shoots great. This caliber is way underrated when shot in these single shot platforms. I am reloading 123 grain hor sp over h4198 and getting close to 2550 ft second. Hodgan actually says I can go a little hotter then the load I am using but I am getting great accurace with what I am using. That said the ammo at cabelas at that price I cant even buy new brass cheaper and get to shoot the loaded ammo for plinking it is 123 grain FMJ.
