10mm on Hogs?

Anyone used a 10mm handgun on hogs? If so, what bullet did you use, and how did it perform?

I would have to double check but I think ol Ted Nugent is big on it for hogs. Pretty much mirrors .41mag, any penetrating should do the job if its in the right spot.

CJ,
Yeah, thanks. I'd pretty much forgotten about Ted.
I would think that with the current state of bullet development, we should get even better performance out of this round. Of course a solid might be in order to insure penetration on a tough old hog.

As an aside note, I just used a .44 mag solid on a 350 lb. sow.  Hit her in the shoulder - it went completely through one shoulder and out the other.  I personally think it was a bit of overkill for short range hog gunning.  I was intending to go to a .41 mag till I read Nuge's book God, Guns & Rock and Roll where he talks about the 10mm performance.  I will definitely pick one up asap for my short-mid range hog hunting - probably Glock 20.

If you handload, a good choice might be the 200gr SWC from www.beartoothbullets.com.  AA#9 works pretty well in the 10mm with the heavy bullets, 12.0grs in a Starline case with a Fed155 will get you about 1200 fps from a 5" Auto pistol.  This is a stout load that I would reserve for hunting loads in order to not pound your pistol.  As always, work up to that load as it is a MAX load in my gun.

I can't speak to it's effect on pigs, but you won't find anything better than this that will feed through a auto that I've seen.

The 10mm and .41Magnum are not too far apart with factory loads, but  it's a whole new ballgame with handloads. One load I've got for a 210grJHP leaves a 7&1/2 inch barrel @ 1600fps. . My 250grWFNGC does 1350fps and that's not the fastest I've had it. I load a 265gr. to 1250fps. Tested in equal length Contenders, the 10mm MAGNUM is able to hold its own to a point due to lack  of proper projectiles.

I have both 10mms and .41Magnums, but my outright favorite is the latter cartridge. With the 6" OEM glock barrel, I wouldn't think twice about going after hogs. Good luck. RKBA!

I use Texas Ammunition Company's 200 grain XTP load in my Glock 20.
