It seems lately on the new run of FTF many have been something  with the transfer bar. But the older 35s (Rem & Whelen) had some issues w/ head spaceing. I don't have one, but thought I read several post on the FTF Transfer bar and a factory recall for the transfer bar replacement on a select few..... The mod/ser/sku numbers were posted here 6-8 months ago. Probably in the FAQ now.

Yup, janitor hit the nail on the head.

New transfer bars fix many such issues. Dilligent reloading fixs tge HS irregularitys.

I figured I could fix the headspace problem if that's all it would be,I just traded for the barrel so the transfer bar issue wouldn't be a problem

Get some ammo and go shoot it, we may be trying to fix a non existant problem. Many barrels have shot just fine.

I have worked with a couple guns for people in 35 rem and this problem but only one in Whelen. As i said a good knoledgable loader will overcome a HS issue like this in short order.

What CW said, I have two H&R Whelens, a 26" RMEF Ultra and a 2006 22" Handi, no problems with either of them, the previous owner of the 2006 shot Rem factory ammo in it with no issues, I only handload myself. I did have 5 pcs of new Rem brass that had the shoulder pushed back way too far which likely would have caused a problem if I loaded them as is, I suspect that's part of the Whelen's problems, bad brass from the get go.

With the headspace issue, fireforming cases to the chamber and then necksizing for any reloads will fix that problem.   You'll have a slightly "improved" case if done properly.

With the transfer bar problem, weren't they due to light strikes?

No, the light strikes are due to the transfer bar problem, it falls out of contact with the firing pin, or is pinched out (like squeezing a watermellon seed out) as the hammer falls.
