Lyman 30 Cal, mold
« on: August 05, 2011, 03:05:17 PM »
I have read a few post about the new Lyman molds not being that good,I bought the 170 grain Lyman new for my 336.
I have not shot my 3006 much in the last few years, getting a little old for the recoil, I loaded up 50 of the Lyman cast with a mid-range load of Red dot,for the 3006. the string over my chrony was a little over 1500 fps.
very nice load, and about the cheapest 06 rounds i have ever shot. the brass was some mil- surplus i pulled the bullets on, a guy gave me a case of the surplus 06 ammo, so all i had in them was the Red dot, and that was left over from my shotgun loading days.and the lead came from some free WW.
I may have gotten a fluke, but that Lyman mold is a keeper.

I've got several Lyman molds that are just great!  If use enough different molds, eventually you'll find one that you don't like, regardless of manufacturer.

Also, if you read enough forums, you'll get everyone's opinion.....and you know what they say about opinions! ;D

I have always had good luck with Lyman and RCBS molds, but i have not bought any new ones in so time, reading the post about the new Lymans not being any good had me worried, but this new one is just as good as my 30 year old molds.
