T/C CUSTOM BBL.
« on: January 04, 2004, 05:51:21 AM »
Hi guys, I have learned alot reading all the post and have really enjoyed the usefull info. and thought it was time to join in I currently shoot the 6.5JDJ and the  375JDJ in 12 1/2 '' BBLs both are great wildcats and do a fantastic job I also have a TCA bbl. in 22 hornet which I really enjoy shooting-so far turkeys and squirrels , its a beautiful bbl. with the octagon taper and I think extra polish and blue job. My question is I want to put together a carbine rig as my OLD eyes and this new PA point restriction thing for deer has me watching alot of buck walk by and not knowing whether its legal or worth shooting ,any way I'm going with fox ridge on a 7-30 waters bbl. and thought I would get there tapered sporter bbl. as I'm not looking for a super-duper tack driver but a good light handy hunting rig but I noticed some posts that said they prefered the bull bbls. how about some help on that and also length and fox ridge stainless compared to there blued bbls. thanks

I own a stainless FoxRidge barrel which was purchased in July of 2003.  It is of a bull configuration, and I do not find it any more accurate that my tapered barrel.  My only complaint with the stainless FoxRidge barrel is the exterior finish.  It has a matt finish, but looks like it was blasted with buckshot, it is extremely ruff.  But then again TC has downgraded the finishing process on their factory barrels to a dull shine.

Don't get me wrong it's still shoots!  But the finish leaves much to be desired. IMO

I have a  Fox Ridge 7-30 waters in the taper barrel matte finish 24" and it shoots 1" at 100yrds with federal factory loads and is as light as a feather to carry . quality wise I have no complaints I also have a Fox Ridge Encore barrel heavy 27" length with muzzle brake in their matte SS in 280 Rem. that shoots and looks great. My only complaint with Fox Ridge is on custom orders they don't lie about the waiting period before your order is ready. Expect a long wait and be surprised if you don't have one. Eddy

My 24inch tapered barrel is the factory blue which is a dull blue finish.  I like the tapered barrel for packing.  I will continue to buy both the blue & stainless barrels form both TC and FoxRidge.  The FoxRidge barrels have a better assortment of chambering to choose from.  If I order a blue barrel from FoxRidge I will request Hi Luster finish (my preference).  Again, I happy with the accuracy of all my barrels (I have 4 at this time for the Encore and 17 barrels for the Contender.

I too miss that deep pretty blue on the factory barrels.  At least you still get it if you order a Hi-Luster Blue finish from Fox Ridge.
