t3 lite .270
« on: September 18, 2011, 10:43:09 AM »
Hello all

Has been a while since I have visited ( actually needed to re-register ). Have aquestion regarding a t3 lite in .270 i purchased not long ago. I have read a few posts regarding this gun and several have referenced not using a brush to clean the gun - patches only. I had a longtime gunsmith just walk me through cleaning the gun and he made no refernce to this. In fact, he did use a brush and also used j-b bore paste as well. I went online to tiika and just read the cleaning instructions and could find no instructions that say not to use a brush. Just wondering where to find this warning. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

Mitch

This warning was printed in the older manuals .( I wondered if the brush was leaving micro groves or scratch's in the barrel ? This would then just add to the fouling )
You can quickly clean a tikka just using a patch .and for heavy copper fouling I have used JB with a patch .
I find that once the barrel is seasoned the few stokes with a patch will indeed get the fouling out , and at times used a foam bore cleaner to prove it .

I have two T3's  over years, that never seen a bronze brush and they shoot groups.

I have three3 T3s and have used brass brushes for cleaning the barrels since day one. Two of the rifles shoot 1/2" five shot groups.

Berretta probably forgot it was a rifle and not a shotgun  ::) .

I use a brush anytime I feel like I need to. The gun has yet to complain. I honestly don't know how you are supposed to do such great harm with a brass tool to a steel barrel. I have also used JB borepaste as well and am happy with the results.

Whether these practices were needed can be debated. But unless you go at it with the intention of doing harm I don't believe any can be done.

When you lap something the lap is always made of a softer material like brass for steel.

Think of all the cord work muzzles on military rifles from improper use of a pull through and the pull through is twine.
