Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

More pics

Front side of oak tree hit by Parrott rounds.

Backside.

I don't have any of the breechloader that would show it up well.  I am waiting for some photos from by brother.  I may have some of it from a previous year.

Sherlock Holmes I ain't, but when I saw this (2007) picture, a bright light shone all about me. I know that "Artilleryman" has been involved with "Camp Grayling" for years, he's also friends with "Matt Switlik", and he owns a U.S. M1861 8-inch siege mortar; so I"m going to make a wild guess, and say that one of these distinguished looking gents is none other than our Artilleryman. In fact, I'm going to go further out on the limb and suggest that the man on the right holding an award is he, because after all, it's his mortar.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Nice try.  The one on the left is Don Lutz and on the right Dennis Bauman.  This is me sighting my Ellsworth.

Like this tree that was hit at least twice and still has a Parrott round in it.

Norm,

On that last photo; did the round ricochet off the ground, and go that high?

Yes.  The ground in the impact area is a series of low ridges which tends to launch them, also rifle rounds may tumble causing a high bounce.  We followed impacts on the ground and in the trees for at least a 1/2 mile behind the 1200 yard target line.

Another photo.  This one is of my brother Dan firing my Ellsworth.

I think it would be neat to set up a camera and sound at the end of a cannon firing range....then post it after the impacts.....just to see n hear the impacts!

or maybe we could get a politician to hold the camera~

There are a lot of trees down since we started using this range.
