Scoping the .44
« on: July 16, 2011, 11:37:37 AM »
Last week I ordered a DNZ one piece scope mount from Midway.  It was on sale at the time and that helped tip my decision toward it.  I also figured rings and a base would cost about the same anyway.

It arrived yesterday and I have to say it looks well made and finished.  I don't have a scope yet and I'll likely rob one of one of my other rifles until I feel like spending another $150...  Anyway I'll post more info about the mount and pix later on but my initial impression of this mount is very positive.

I'm not so good at posting pix so I'll just put in the links.

Here are pix of the mount next to the rifle.

Here are pix of it mounted but without the ring tops on.

I still don't have a scope for it so I just put the ring tops on so I wouldn't loose anything.

I bought the extra high mount for 2 reasons, 1 I've had neck injures and I don't like to crane my neck and I don't want to use a hammer extension.  There is plenty of clearance for the hammer to miss the scope but I'm thinking of bobbing an 1/8th to a quarter inch off the hammer spur anyway...

I should have a scope in a week or so depending on what I can scrounge up or how my cash flows...

It took me a while to get back to this one...  Anyway I talked my old lady into buying me a 2-7 Redfield scope for my birthday.  It should be here soon.

I'm really looking forward to trying it with the one piece mount DNZ mount.  I could have gone with a conventional base and rings but this set up looks promising.

Anyway I'm hoping for a range report by the end of the month...

I too have this mount, I also have the same scope mounted in it!!

I like the mount for quality of manufacture and design... I don't like the height of it!! To make such a nice unit and NOT make them in lower mountings is a mystery!!!

It works, but is NOT my favorite simply because the mount is too high!  I like the mount just not its height. I prefer, no, MUCH prefer, a lo mounted scope. One thats as close to the barrel as mechanically possible.

Yeah, it's a good thing he wants/needs a high mount.  :)

I had one on an Encore and took it off, I like my scopes to be as low as I can get them.

I'm taller than most (6'5") and I have a long neck.  Also my neck is messed up from a bike crash 25+ years ago so I'm stuck using high rings or I can't get my eye lined up to see through the scope.

I have high or extra high rings on all my rifles and so far I haven't experienced a problem hitting anything because of it...

The scope won't be here for probably a week and I'll take me at least that much longer to get out and sight it in.  I also have at least 5 other rifles that I need to sight in but my .44 is on the top of the list...

BTW, Midway list these in 3 heights, I just bought the tallest one...

Mine is the lowest... I don't think there is allot of difference between them...

Midway lists three heights in their description, but DNZ doesn't make low or mediums for the H&R, DNZ only makes them in high and extra high.  :-\

I was sure Midway had a low version listed but now they don't have them at all...  Anyway I'm happy with it but if you like them low, this isn't the solution for you...
