Your Black Powder Mortar and Cannon Family
« on: August 18, 2011, 08:50:53 AM »
IvarForkbeard recently posted a thread of his "family".  Over on Practical Machinist there is a thread of folk's beloved South Bend lathes (and other SB MT's).  Also I really enjoyed Zulu's coverage of his recent "paint job".

I would be interested in seeing others' families of BPM&C pieces... can we do that without this turning into a "he who dies with the most toys wins" thread?  I would like to see what folks are shooting (or displaying) and be able to assess their level of addiction compared to my own.  ;)   I freely admit I am a little obtuse about the sport but I think it would be fun and informative to see others' expression(s) of their own idiosyncracy about BPM&C'ing.  :)   :D   ;D   ::)   Besides I can archive the thread on a CD and show it to my family every time start ragging me about how "overboard" I am on it all.

I too am surely enjoying Ed's additions just now.  It's great we have him and others dedicated to helping feed our habit with reasonably priced, quality products.  8)

I am slowly building my collection... all at the same time. Everything is a work in progress. The big tube is a 40mm I have not been happy with the looks of and am in the process of purchasing the steel to make a 'moose53 like' Whitworth. The mortar is a golfball Coehorn. The small tube is a 75cal. Lastly... my fish have a little plastic tube too :)

George, this sound a bit ominous!  Can you explain?

Douglas,
I believe GOW is making a funny; bed, because he just got a mortar from Ed, and mortars (as we well know) are mounted on beds, not wheeled carriages (at least not usually).
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

"Yup" to Cannoneer's post... I now have four mortars, two works in progress (bowling and pool ball) and Ed's large GB plus his pop-can/tennis-ball mortar.  All the "wheel guns" are also works in progress... I'll take a few pics and post them.

I like the feedback so far... keep it coming.  :)

gunsonwheels,
Most of the regulars here have seen this but maybe you haven't.
This is a Photobucket link to a slideshow of some of my work.  All barrels except three are made of wood. There is one iron barrel and two concrete barrels.
Enjoy! ;D

I'm addicted too  ;D ! This is just one of Ed's tubes that I have. Don't be too harsh on my wood working skills and those aren't the best wheels but I got them off Ebay for $9.00!
