Advise on 50yd parallax scope please.
« on: July 29, 2011, 01:51:36 PM »
Looking for a short, 4x, 50yd parallax scope for a 7.62x39 handi shorty.  Will be shot alot under 100yds.  So... rimfire scope.??  Asking about ruggedness, ease of operation, optical clarity, low light performance; you know, all that good stuff...

Considering:

Weaver RV4x28 rimfire, can take airgun recoil
NIkon Prostaff 4x32 rimfire, refurb good price @ Natchez

The Nikon is 1" longer, 4oz heavier, larger Objective & exit pupil, cheaper, refurb,

The Weaver is sleeker, smaller eyepiece & Obj, shorter, lighter, $50 more

Not particularly interested in variables, or 4x Prodiamond which I already have.

Can't find a Burris 4x mini.

Input appreciated.  Thanks.

I wouldn't put any rimfire scope on it unless it was the leupold rimfire.

Bass Pro Shop is having their Fall hunting sale going on right now. They might have something for ya at a good price. I just received their flier, but nothing showing in a 4x scope. Check out their website. Problem with refurbished scopes is that the warranties are usually only good for 90 days.

I mounted a Leupold 4x rimfire scope on a Ruger 1-v 22-250 and it worked fine. The one deer I shot with it was only 20 yards away, but I had good eye relief and good FOV. I would think a 22-250 would recoil about like a 7.62x39 base on powder capacity.

The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

Just tossing out an idea,
But do you think a standard 100yrd parallax scope will mess ya up all that much at 50?

I mean at 50yrds do you really need to focus on the individual hairs of a deer hide and the cross hairs?

Not sure what the parallax is set at. The Weaver 4X32 shotgun scope is on sale at Natchez shooters supply for $99. I have a 2.5X32 on my Handi 357 and love it.

The Weaver 4x32 shotgun scope has a 100yd parallax free setting.

Just FYI... found a Leupold M8 4x compact.  Guess I'll just have to settle for that.

Thanks all... Be Well...

most rifire scopes from reputable manufactures are built just as well as there rifle scopes. Only differnce is paralex is set a closer range. I wouldnt be afraid of a leupold, nikon, burris, ect but would probalby shy away from a tasco or simmons or some off brand.
