New (to me) Custom 475

This beast followed me home yesterday..  Reeder Ultimate Bisley 475L...  Mongolian stag grips, 5 port magna porting, setback trigger... You boys ready to shoot?

Does need a Ken O'Neill front sight doesn't it!   These Reeder guns use the same front sight base that FA uses.  As proper planning suggests I try to keep a few of those in my pocket at all times.  I'll make the change when I put a Bowen Target rear sight on it...

They don't look as solid as some of the Sambar stag I've seen.  The dark parts you see in the pics look to be porus to me.  While the dark parts look porus they don't look pithy like some of the poorer Sambar and elk stag I've seen.  My best Sambar looks like solid stone on both sides.

ive got a set of elks that were so porus that the grip screw pulled right through them.

I'd think that a lot of the quality in elk stag would depend on the ethics of the grip maker.  I've been known to wait extensive periods for quality elk stag grips.   Pieces big enough for Bisley grips must be hard to find.  My patience has resulted in my receiving elk stags that are virtually as dense as any Sambar I've ever held.. I've also seen elk stag that look like 100% pith.  Let your grip maker know what you want and that if he is willing to look for the right material for you, that you are willing to wait to get it..
 
I see elk stag for $100-$150.  This mongolian stag is $250 and Reeder has the best prices on custom fitted grips I've seen..
