Trying to find a slug gun- need help
« on: August 27, 2011, 04:24:24 PM »
Looking for a 20 gauge slug gun to take deer out to 75 yards.

Haven't found anything locally except for a 12 ga single shot NEF.

If I buy the 12 gauge can I buy a rifled 20 gauge barrel that will swap in- if so where?

If not, then where is a good source for 20 gauge slug guns?

Don't know about the availability of NEF or H&R, but Savage is making a great 20GA slug gun right now.

I shoot slugs in my roit gun.  More than accurate for deer hunting under 75 yards.  If you get a smooth bore with real sights, you will be suprised what foster slugs will do.
The 20 ga USH will fit on your 12 ga frame.

Remington and Mossberg both make 20 gauges slug guns.  I used a Savage 220 and starting last year and have taken four deer with one shot each at ranges out to 140 yards.

There are tons of H&R slug guns out there.  The best gun for what you described is one that they no longer make
the tracker smooth bore. I have 2 just on case something happens to.  I got mine from gunbroker.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

You can get a H&R Ultralite Slug hunter from Walmart ,Cheaper Than Dirt or lots of other suppliers for less than $200 don't get much more accurate than that. Kurt

20ga Tracker II at a local dealer here for $169. I had mine drilled & tapped and put a 4X32 simmons pro diamond on it, and it will clover leaf 3 shots at 75 yards.

If you shop around (hit the used racks and/or pawn shops too) you can buy the whole gun pretty cheap rather than mess with swapping barrels (Ive done it both ways). Within your stated range I would opt for a smoothbore.
