Front sight adjustment on a Marlin 1895
« on: September 02, 2011, 03:33:25 PM »
Hi guys :)   Picked up my first ever lever action ;D   The front sight has been moved to the right and is no longer centered.  How can I move the sight as it is a pressure fit without messing it up?  Thanks for the replies.

If you are talking about the blade, tap on it.

If it's a dovetail mount you could buy a dovetail sight adjusting tool from Brownell's, Midway, etc, however they are expensive for one-time or occasional use.
I just use a brass (softer than steel so it doesn't damage the sight) punch and a small hammer to tap it in the direction you want to move it.

Have you shot it yet?  The front sight may well have been put in this position to properly sight it in.  If that's the case, when you move it back to the center you'll have to compensate with rear sight adjustment.

Drift it over with an aluminum punch. (Even brass will ding up steel, Al doesn't and can be wiped off when you're done) But as another poster said, shoot it first to see if that is where it needs to be. None of my Marlins have the front sight centered in the dovetail.

Thanks guys!  I have shot it and shoots left.  Doesn't kick nearly as hard as I was expecting :D   I shot one factory 300 grain round.  I also loaded several light loads with a 400 grain cast and it felt like a 410. Thank you for the tips!  Your advice is always apreciated :)
