25-06 Group at 200 Yards
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:33:17 PM »
I purchased a PH 25-06 barrel back in January and shot it for the first time on Thursday. This is my first high power rifle and scope. I sighted the scope in the best I could on Thursday evening and then shot at a friends house on Saturday trying to make tweeks in a 25 mph crosswind at 100 and 250 yards in an effort to prep for a co-workers competitive shoot today. Needless to say I wasn't very comfortable heading out to the shoot today.

The wind was about 10 mph from our left today and I missed the 300 yard target during practice, so I went to 100 yards and changed the elevation a bit; the windage never required a click on the Leopold VX2. The competition started and I shot one practice round followed by three scored rounds at 250 yards. It turns out the first three shots were probably the tightest three of that round and possibly all day. I was shooting Remington Core Lokt 100 grain. Hopefully a picture of the group is below.

Later I shot the 10" target during my only other two attempts at 300 yards with Remington Core-Lokt 100 grain rounds. I think I raised the eyebrows of a TC nay-sayer today. I also shot a magnum loaded Cheap Shot Sabot at the 300 yard target using open sights and a spotter thinks I missed by an inch or two. I love our Encores.

Thanks, it's a great barrel. I shot it again Friday night from 300 yards off bags and didn't miss. Unfortunately others were shooting, so I couldn't look at the group, but who cares, it was hitting on the 10 inch gong while aiming at the top of the radius. I was shooting Remington 100 gr Core Lokt factory ammo.
